Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - Two games into the season's second half and the first-half champion Wilmington Blue Rocks already have a pair of wire-to-wire wins. Dennicher Carrasco's two-run single in the first inning put the Blue Crew ahead to stay in a 7-0 victory over the Frederick Keys on Friday st Frawley Stadium. With the triumph Wilmington improved to a season-high 21 games over .500.

Carrasco finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. His two-run double in the first plated Blake Perkins and Brewer Hicklen. He was also right in the thick of the Rocks' four-run fourth frame.

Hicklen got things started with a single and went to third on Carrasco's subsequent liner to left. MJ Melendez then walked to load the bases before Nick Pratto's single made it 3-0. Two outs later Rudy Martin broke the game wide open, sending a bases-clearing double to the wall in center.

Meanwhile Marcelo Martinez turned in his best start as a Blue Rock. The lefty tossed six scoreless frames and allowed just one hit. Martinez (5-2) fanned six and walked three, while allowing just one runner to reach scoring position (which occurred courtesy of a passed ball).

Wilmington continues its four-game homestand on Saturday against Frederick. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. Tickets are available online at BlueRocks.com and fans who can't make it to the ballpark can catch all the action with the Voice of the Blue Rocks, Cory Nidoh, on 89.7 WGLS-FM.

Four and Six have been the magic numbers for Wilmington in 2019. When the Rocks score four times in a game they are 29-3 on the year. Conversely, when Wilmington manages just three scores or fewer in an affair the team is only 17-22. On the moud Wilmington has excelled when starters last through the sixth. The Blue Crew are 24-5 when their starting pitcher makes it at least six frames and 22-20 when the starter is pulled in the sixth inning or sooner.

Wilmington won its fifth straight game on Friday, which equaled its longest winning streak of the season. The Blue Crew had captured five in a row from April 6-11. Since then they had won four straight on five occasions, but had been out-scored by a combined 34-7 in their bid for a fifth consecutive victory.
