Williams Homers, Has Three RBI in 7-3 Loss on Wednesday

Greensboro, North Carolina- Alika Williams had two hits, including a homer, with three RBI in the Bowling Green Hot Rods (21-13) 7-3 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers (15-19) on Wednesday night. The Hot Rods and Grasshoppers will play the third game of a six-game set on Thursday with a 5:30 PM CT first pitch at First National Bank Field in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Bowling Green jumped out to a first-inning lead against Greensboro starter Nick Garcia. Pedro Martinez led off the game with a walk and stole second base. Alika Williams singled to shallow left, scoring Martinez to give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. The Grasshoppers evened the score in the bottom of the first and Matt Gorski homered in the third to give Greensboro a 2-1 lead.

The Hot Rods took the lead back in the fifth, chasing Garcia from the game. With two outs Martinez singled to shallow center field and stole second for the third time in the game. Williams floated his second homer of the season over the left-field wall, giving the Hot Rods a 3-2 edge and ending Garcia's night on the mound.

Gorski struck again in the fifth against BG reliever Franklin Dacosta. With two on and two outs, the Grasshoppers' centerfielder hit his second homer of the game, a three-run shot to left-center, giving Greensboro a 5-3 lead. Abrahan Gutierrez added a two-run shot of his own in the eighth en route to a 7-3 final.

Nathan Wiles allowed two runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 3.0 innings. Dacosta (0-2) allowed five runs on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over his 5.0 innings of work in his second loss of the season.
