
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Sign Defenseman Dave Karpa to AHL SPC

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today signed defenseman Dave Karpa to an American Hockey League contract. The announcement was made by Penguins' team president Jeff Barrett.
Karpa, 32, has recorded 10 points (3+7) and 39 penalty minutes in 25 games this season with the Penguins. He was originally signed by the Penguins to a 25-game tryout contract on November 19, 2003.
The 6-1, 210-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan split the 2002-03 season between the New York Rangers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 19 games with the Rangers, he recorded two assists and 14 penalty minutes, while posting seven assists and 70 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Wolf Pack.
Karpa has recorded 98 points (18+80) and 1,374 penalty minutes in 557 career games with Quebec, Anaheim, Carolina and the New York Rangers.
During his 14 -year pro career, Karpa has played in 139 career games in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Halifax, Cornwall and Hartford, recording 50 points (7+43) and 299 penalty minutes.
Karpa was selected by the Quebec Nordiques in the fourth round (68TH overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
The Penguins (17-15-4-4, 42 pts; 4TH -place, East Division) continue their six-game homestand tomorrow night when they host the Philadelphia Phantoms (22-13-4-1; 49 pts; 3RD -Place, East Division) at 7:05 p.m. at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins, who have sold out their last 118 home games at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza, will play 11 of their next 13 games at home. They have a record of 10-7-0-1 at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza this season.
