January 16, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Bridgeport Sound Tigers met at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night, with the Black and Gold thrilling 10,499 fans in a 3-2 overtime victory. The win improved the Bruins' record to 18-12-9-0 (45 points), moving them into a tie with the Manchester Monarchs for second place in the Atlantic Division. Providence is unbeaten in overtime this season, at 2-0-9.
Bruin left wing Ivan Huml tallied the game-winner at 2:34 of overtime, on his eighth goal of the season. Center Andre Savage notched his eighth and ninth goals, as he continues to move up the team's franchise career scoring list. Savage has 63-89-152 totals in 160 career games with Providence, moving him to within seven points of former Bruin Cameron Mann for third place. Defenseman Peter Metcalf assisted on both of Savage's goals.
Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 20 shots to improve to 9-5-3 on the season.
Providence left wing Martin Samuelsson was stopped on a penalty shot attempt at 19:59 of the second period. It was the third penalty shot attempt this season by a Bruin, the first on home ice. Huml was stopped in Philadelphia on November 16, while Matt Herr scored in Lowell on December 13.
The Bruins play on the road next, when they face off with the Portland Pirates on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550.
The Bruins return home for a special 1:05 p.m. matinee on Monday, January 19, when they host the Binghamton Senators. The game was originally scheduled for 4:05 p.m., but was changed to accommodate a request by the Dunkin' Donuts Center and Providence College.
