
Lynch Signs, Mizzi Released & Bekar Returns

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed Chris Lynch to a professional tryout contract and released Preston Mizzi from a PTO. The Sound Tigers have also announced the reassignment of Left Wing Derek Bekar to the team by the Islanders.
Lynch, who was named to the ECHL's Eastern Conference All-Star Team, joins the Sound Tigers from that league's Greenville Grrrowl with whom he had 20 goals, a team-lead-tying 19 assists, 39 points and 77 penalty minutes in 36 games. Mizzi will return to the ECHL's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies after notching an assist and two penalty minutes in the Sound Tigers' December 28th 5-4 overtime road win over the Hershey Bears in which he injured his shoulder. Mizzi also appeared in one AHL game with the Sound Tigers earlier in the season while on a previous PTO.
Bekar to the Sound Tigers returns after posting two penalty minutes in four NHL games with the Islanders. He has 14 goals, four assists, 18 points and 30 penalty minutes in 35 AHL games with the Sound Tigers this season and is the team's leading, active goal scorer with All-Star Jeff Hamilton out of the line up with an eye injury.
The Sound Tigers will continue a stretch of six straight road games when they visit the Providence Bruins tonight at 7:05 p.m. and Hershey tomorrow at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com. The Sound Tigers will finish the road stretch when they play the Albany River Rats; at the home of their NHL affiliate, the New Jersey Devils; next Thursday, January 22nd and the Philadelphia Phantoms next Friday, January 23rd. The Sound Tigers' next home game will be next Saturday, January 24th when they host Albany at 7:05 p.m.
Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
