
Wild Wolves Rally Spins Fourth Straight Erie Win

The SeaWolves (9-4) came back late to take a fourth straight game over Akron (6-8), 6-5.
For the second straight night, Akron scored in the first inning against the Erie starter. Consecutive singles from Kahlil Watson and Chase DeLauter plated an early run against Wilkel Hernandez.
Akron starter Aaron Davenport held Erie off the board through four frames. In the fifth, Carlos Mendoza walked and Ben Malgeri singled to begin the frame. Daniel Cabrera's RBI single tied the game at one. Christian Molfetta then dropped down a sacrifice squeeze bunt to score Malgeri and give Erie a 2-1 lead. Gage Workman later singled home a third run of the inning to make it 3-1.
Hernandez departed after allowing one run over 4.2 innings. Joel Peguero finished the fifth but ran into trouble in the sixth.
In the sixth, Aaron Brach started the inning by reaching on Workman's error. An infield single by Joe Lampe and a hit by pitch allowing Kody Huff to reach base loaded the bases with one out. With two out, Yordys Valdes singled home two runs to tie the game at three. PJ Poulin entered and uncorked a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run. Petey Halpin then singled home Valdes to give Akron a 5-3 lead.
Erie stormed back in the eighth against Ross Carver. Workman, as part of a three-hit game, singled to begin the frame. With two on and one out, Eliezer Alfonzo singled home a run to cut Akron's lead to one run. Malgeri then singled home the tying run. Cabrera followed with a run-scoring double, giving Erie the 6-5 advantage.
Andrew Magno got the final six outs and was credited with his second save of the season. Poulin (1-0) earned the win in relief. Carver (0-1) was charged with the loss.
Erie clinched a third consecutive series victory to begin the season with the win. The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday as Troy Melton rematches Ryan Webb.
