Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped a 9-6 decision to the Washington Wild Things on Saturday night at Hawkinson Ford Field.

The Wild Things staked themselves to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Right fielder Mike Arbinger led off with a single and swiped second base. Catcher Randy McGarvey drew a walk to put two on with none out. A double by left fielder Chris Sidick plated Arbinger and pushed McGarvey to third. Second baseman Bruce Baldwin laced a single to center, scoring both McGarvey and Sidick. Baldwin later scored on a Windy City defensive miscue to give the Wild Things a 4-0 lead.

The ThunderBolts battled back for two in the second. A string of four consecutive singles by Jason Crosland, Justin Schuda, and Matt Ferrara loaded the bases to begin the inning. An infield single by catcher Jason Alcott allowed Crosland to score. Center fielder Jerome McCoy grounded into a 6-4-3 double play which plated Schuda to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Windy City added one in the third and Washington tacked on two runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. A barrage of walks tossed by ThunderBolt pitchers and a defensive miscue led to one run for Washington in the sixth and two runs in the seventh, to put the Wild Things up 9-3

Schuda rocked a Corey Ohalek offering over the right field fence for his sixth homerun of the season. The four-bagger brought home right fielder Nick Johnson, in addition to the one run already scored in the frame, to put the ThunderBolts within three at 9-6. But that was as close as the ThunderBolts would get as 9-6 would become final.

Suffering the loss for the ThunderBolts was starting pitcher Mike Renery. Renery lasted five-plus innings and allowed seven of the nine Washington runs, only five of which were earned. The loss drops Renery's record to 3-5. Earning the win for the Wild Things was starter Aaron Gangi. Gangi scattered ten hits over six innings, allowing only three runners to cross home plate. Steven Spragg picked up his third save of the season.

The ThunderBolts and Wild Things will continue their three game series on Sunday night at 5:05pm. Josh Glynn (RHP, 2-3, 4.94) will take to the hill for Windy City and Brian Burks (RHP, 5-1, 3.40) will counter for Washington. Tickets are still available
