Rockford RiverHawks News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Florence second baseman Wally Quigg was clutch in the late innings as the Freedom came from behind to defeat the RiverHawks, 7-6.

The ‘Hawks had runners on first and third with two out in the bottom of the ninth when Quigg preserved the victory with a diving play on Ashley Farr's ground ball in the hole.

Quigg also drove in the game-winning off losing pitcher Curt Borland (1-2) with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The ‘Hawks fell behind 4-0 when the Freedom scored two in the second and two in the third off starter John Richards. For the second straight night, Rockford's starter could not make it out of the third inning as Richards lasted just 2 2/3 innings.

The RiverHawks took a 6-4 lead in the fifth inning on Jeremy Busch's three-run double. He also doubled in a run in the fourth for his first professional RBI.

Florence scored single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to eventually take the lead for good. Josh Sanchez led off the sixth with a double, took third on a wild pitch by Borland, and scored on a passed ball. Darin Kinsolving hit an RBI double in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6 and Quigg's sacrifice fly in the eighth proved to be the difference.

The RiverHawks take on the Freedom, starting at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. It will be Jimmy Buffet night at Marinelli Field on Sunday, and fans who attend the game wearing a swimsuit or Hawaiian shirt will receive a half-price discount on their tickets.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
