Richmond Roosters News Release


The Roosters return to McBride Stadium on Saturday night to take on the West Division Gateway Grizzlies. The three game series will begin with a special Ladies Night Fashion Show on Saturday as your Richmond Roosters try to extend their winning streak. Its fun for everyone at McBride: Saturday, July 9th - (GAME STARTS AT 6:35 PM, GATES OPEN 5:35 PM) Don't miss Ladies Night at McBride Stadium. A Fashion Show will be held before the game and between innings during the game. Ladies will be modeling clothes from Secret Ingredient on the field and in the stands. Also, prizes will be given away during the game to lucky fans. The Roosters will honor the students from C.R. Richardson Elementary School in our Excellence In Education program. Its Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Night and Boy Scout Night at the ballpark.

Sunday, July 10th - (GAME STARTS AT 4:35 PM, GATES OPEN 4:35 PM) Sunday is Great American Airplane Toss Night. Fans in attendance can participate in an event to see who can create the best-flying paper airplane. Paper will be provided to contestants for the competition by the Roosters. Everyone who creates an airplane will have an opportunity to toss it toward the field to see how well it flies! Don't forget it is the Pal-Item Family Day....check Sunday's paper for a family coupon. We honor the Highland Heights Elementary School for tonight's Excellence In Education partner. Its also Ridgeville Little League night at McBride.

Monday, July 11th - (GAME STARTS AT 6:35 PM, GATES OPEN 5:35 PM) Monday will be another episode of Rowdy Factor and Meijer Monday. Another contestant will be eliminated in the Rowdy Factor Series that challenges players to eat tough to handle foods created by O'Charley's Restaurant. Anyone that brings a Meijer receipt to the ballpark can be entered to win a gift bag from Meijer. The winner will be drawn during the game. On this Monday our Excellence In Education honoree is the kids from Twin Valley Elementary School.

(From Left to Right) Mike Reese, Josh Hollingsworth, Kevin White and Tony Casoli will represent the Roosters in the 2005 Frontier League All-Star game next Wednesday (July 13th) at Falconi Field in Washington, Pennsylvania. Below are bios of the four players. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR RICHMOND ROOSTERS ALL-STARS!

Mike Reese This will be Reese's second All-Star appearance. He hit a two-run double and made an outstanding diving catch at the 2004 All-Star game in O'Fallon, Missouri. The Richmond centerfielder is batting .377, tied for the third best batting average in the Frontier League. His .484 on-base percentage and 38 runs scored are second best in the league. He has a team-leading 58 hits and six stolen bases. Reese has hit four homeruns, tying a career high and has hit 11 doubles, three shy of his career best. He reached base in 22 straight games from June 6 to June 29. During the streak, he batted .351 with two homeruns. He has reached base in all 15 of Richmond's home games and is hitting .476 at McBride Stadium. He tied a career high with four hits on May 26 against Florence and June 2 versus Ohio Valley. Reese has three or more hits in nine games this season. He collected three hits, including a homerun and a double, scored three runs and drove in four runs in a 13-9 Richmond victory over Kalamazoo on June 17. He went 8-for-14 (.572) with six runs, two homeruns and three RBI during the Roosters series against Chillicothe at McBride Stadium from July 3 to July 5.

Josh Hollingsworth The shortstop has played in all 42 of Richmond's games this season. Hollingsworth has hit 12 homeruns, third most in the league, and just two off his career high. He hit eight of his homeruns in June, including a stretch of six homers in eight games from June 11-18. Hollingsworth is batting .351 in 15 games at McBride Stadium. He has 35 RBI, tied for second most on the Roosters and is on pace to surpass his career high for RBI (48). Hollingsworth went 4-for-5 with a homerun and drove in three runs in a 6-2 win against Chillicothe on June 6. Hollingsworth has hit nine doubles, three off his career high of 12 he set during the 2003 season with Richmond.

Kevin White White has already set career high for doubles (14) this season. He has 36 RBI, one shy of his career high of 37 that he had last year in his rookie season. White is batting .301 and his .542 slugging percentage is third best on the Roosters. He has 12 multi-hit games. White had three hits in six at-bats, including the game-tying homerun in the tenth inning against Rockford on June 16. He had three hits, a homerun and three RBI in first start of the season against Florence on May 27. The rightfielder drove in three runs in 14-12 win over Windy City on June 21.

Tony Casoli Casoli has six wins, tied for third-most in the league and his 2.73 ERA is eighth-best. He leads Richmond in both categories. He has a league-leading 57 strikeouts. The righthander pitched back-to-back complete games in late June. He threw a complete game eleven-hitter against Windy City on June 23 and followed that up with a seven-inning complete game in the second game of a doubleheader versus Ohio Valley on June 28. He allowed just four hits and two earned runs against Ohio Valley, and struck out 12 batters in that game, a career high. Casoli has walked only six batters all season which is the fewest among any Frontier League pitcher to have pitched at least 55 innings. He is tied for the team lead in complete games (two) and has pitched the second most innings on the team (56). He has gone at least six innnings in every start and went 5-0 in June.
