
Roosters snap losing streak

Crestwood, Illinois - Richmond avoided the sweep 6-5 on Friday night by beating Windy City in extra innings. The Roosters came from behind twice to tie the game and eventually scored the last run in the 10th inning for the win.
Richmond scored first for the first time in the series with two runs in the second inning. Kevin White scored on an error from the shortstop while Tony Sanguinetti scored on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Joe Rhomberg. The Thunderbolts committed two errors in the inning to help the Roosters jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Windy City came back by scoring one run in the third and two in the fourth. Clemente Bonilla continued to hit Richmond pitching with an RBI double, then Nick Klusaw added a two-run homer to overtake Richmond at 3-2.
The Roosters drew even in the top of the sixth with a run-scoring double down the left field line by Rhomberg, but Windy City added two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning. RBI from Jason Crosland and Justin Niefer gave the Thunderbolts a short lived 5-3 lead. Richmond recovered with two runs in the seventh to even the game for the second time. Nate Gravley had an RBI double and later scored on two wild pitches to tie it up at 5-5.
Both teams missed chances in the ninth inning to take the lead with runner in scoring position and less than two outs, but neither was able to get a run forcing extra innings. The Roosters struck first in the tenth with a RBI single by Josh Hollingsworth. Beau Massey took the mound in the bottom of the inning and retired the Thunderbolts in order to wrap up the win for Richmond, 6-5. Adam Varteressian (5-0) got the win for Richmond while Massey (2) earned the save. The season series between Windy City and Richmond is now completed with the Roosters winning four out of six games.
The Roosters will begin a three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Matt Huskey (0-1, 14.54) is scheduled to make his third start for Richmond and Erik Dessau (1-1). It will be the final series before the Frontier All-Star break.
