Washington Wild Things News Release
Ypsilanti, MI - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, continued their slide as they fell to the Midwest Sliders by a score of 8-7 at Oestrike Stadium Monday night.
The Wild Things got on the board in the first inning when Michael Parker scored on a wild pitch.
Midwest's Jimmy Baker answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run. Midwest continued to score, chalking up two more runs in the second, another one in the third and four more in the fourth, including a two run shot by Jonnie Knoble and a two run single by former Wild Thing Robbie Knapp.
Washington added one run each in the sixth and the eighth. Their ninth inning rally, however, fell short -- with the bases loaded, Jacob Dempsey singled and drove in two runs. Then with the bases juiced again, Matt Sutton plated two more with a line drive double, but Grant Psomas was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
RHP Andy Schindling (4-1) took the lost for Washington, allowing eight runs on 10 hits, with four walks and a couple of hit batsman.
The Wild Things return to Washington to host the Lake Erie Crushers Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a bobble head in the likeness of field manager Mark Mason. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55 p.m.
Additional Notes: Centerfielder Chris Sidick reached his 400th game in the Frontier League tonight. This is the Cecil, PA native's fifth season with the Wild Things.
Matt Sutton went three for five with three RBI, a triple, double and single in tonight's game.
