LOVES PARK, Ill. - The River City Rascals rallied for four runs in the top of the 12th inning and beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 8-4.
The Rascals salvaged the finale of a four-game series, in front of a sellout crowd of 4,231 at Road Ranger Stadium.
River City's JoJo Batten was 4-for-5 with three RBI. He led off the game with a home run and led off the 12th with a single. He scored the go-ahead run on Ryan Wehrle's single to center field. Wehrle later scored on a forceout and Ryan Groth added a two-run single off Ferdin Tejada (0-1).
The RiverHawks rallied for three two-out runs in the eighth inning. Robert Sabates singled in a run and scored on Ross McCoy's double. Ben Blumenthal tied the game at 4-4 with a pinch-hit RBI single.
River City closer Jason Lowey (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and escaped two jams to win in relief. The RiverHawks loaded the bases in the 11th and 12th, but failed to score.
The RiverHawks host the Evansville Otters at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. It's Dog Days of Summer, sponsored by Petco and by Carlson Canine Camp. Your furry friends are invited to the park. We'll provide the water bowls, wading pools, dog toys, treats and even pooper scoopers.
