Washington Wild Things News Release

SAUGET, IL-The Washington Wild Things came out victorious in game two of their three-game series with the Gateway Grizzlies by a final score of 6-4 on Saturday, May 30.

Washington starter Ernesto Zaragoza earned the win for the Wild Things in his debut outing. The right-hander struck out three Grizzlies in his five-inning performance. Max Schonfield suffered the loss for Gateway.

The Wild Things started the game off extremely hot in the top of the first. David Popkins got things going with a no out, two-run homer deep to left center. Also joining in on the offense was Edinson Rincon, who brought in a run on a fielder's choice. After a thirty-minute rain delay, the Grizzlies answered the Washington bats when outfielder Richard Seigel hit a three-run bomb to tie the game in the bottom of the second.

The Wild Things punched back in the top of third, scoring three more runs making the score 6-3.

The Grizzlies did threaten to take over the lead as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but reliever Richie Mirowski struck the following batter out to get out of the jam. Mirowski also recorded his first save of the year for the Wild Things tonight.

The Wild Things will go for the series sweep on Sunday, May 31 when they take on the Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
