Aviators Rally to Edge Beach Bums 8-7

Tanner Witt's RBI single capped off a four run eighth inning rally by Rockford as the Aviators overcame an early six run deficit to defeat the Traverse City Beach Bums 8-7 in Frontier League baseball action Friday night at Aviators Stadium in Love's Park, IL. It was Rockford's third straight win overall and the Aviators (12-1) fourth straight win over the Beach Bums (5-7) this season.
Traverse City jumped on Rockford starter Kyle Hassna with a pair of homers in the first two innings to help forge a 6-0 lead. The Aviators mounted their comeback on the strength of three round trippers, solo shots from Greg Velazquez, Michael Hur and Devon Rodriguez, the latter a two run shot that drew Rockford within one in the eighth inning. After a pitching change by the Beach Bums, Brian Bistagne and Witt each had bases loaded hits to drive in two more runs and Mike Schaub closed it out in the ninth for Rockford by posting his fifth save. David Russo (1-0) picked up the win in relief while Chris Rice (0-1) suffered the loss for Traverse City.
