Schaumburg, IL - The Rascals (6-7) set season highs in runs and hits in their 14-8 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers (6-8) on Friday, May 29 at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium. The Rascals opened the game with a four-run first inning. CF Curran Redal hit a leadoff single, then RF Saxon Butler and C Josh Ludy each walked to load the bases. 3B Taylor Ard hit a two-run double to left field, and DH Danny Canela drove in two on a single.

Schaumburg responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Mike Schulze led off with a double, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexi Colon.

Canela hit a solo homerun in the third inning, taking a 5-1 lead.

The Boomers cut the deficit to just one two runs in the fourth inning. Justin Vazquez walked, and Cam Sherrer and Michael Valdez singled, loading the bases. Stephen Rogers then hit an RBI infield single, and Schulze hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

The Rascals then scored four runs in back-to-back innings. Ard began the fifth inning with a double, and 2B Hector Crespo singled. Both runners scored on an error by right fielder Vazquez off of the bat of Canela. After an infield single by LF Brian Hansen, Redal hit an RBI single. SS Johnny Morales then singled, and Butler hit an RBI sac fly.

Schaumburg answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. After two singles put men on the corners with one out, Sherrer had a run-scoring sac fly. Next Michael Valadez, Stephen Rogers, and Schulze each hit an RBI single.

In the sixth, Ard hit a lead off single. After advancing to third with two outs, 1B Zach Kometani, Redal, and Morales all had RBI singles; Morales' hit scored two.

The Boomers added a run in the seventh inning on a groundout, but Morales had a RBI sacrifice flyout to score Canela, who reached on a single, in the eighth.

All nine Rascal starters collected a hit, and five hitters had multiple knocks. Redal and Ard both went 4-for-5 with a walk; Canela and Kometani each had three hits. Morales had three RBI, and Canela drove in four.

RHP Derek Cape (W, 1-1) pitched 1.0 inning of relief. RHP Tim Koons pitched 4.2 innings, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and three walks. He punched out four men. RHP Nick Kennedy surrendered one run over 1.1 innings of work. RHP Zeb Sneed pitched the final 2.0 innings.

Anthony Gomez (L, 0-3) surrendered nine runs, seven earned, over 5.0 innings. Evan Boyd allowed five earned runs and seven hits in 2.1 innings of relief.

The Rascals and Schaumburg Boomers continue their three-game set on Saturday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium.
