Washington Wild Things News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, were unable to overcome a strong pitching performance from Windy City starter Mike Recchia in a 5-1 loss to the Thunderbolts on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Wild Things record to 5-6.
Justin Hall took the loss for the Wild Things. It was also Hall's first loss against the Thunderbolts, dropping his record to 2-1 against Windy City.
Windy City struck first in the second, taking advantage of a fielding error with bases loaded to plate two runs.
Hall would face danger in the fifth, but after allowing the bases loaded on a double and back-to-back singles the righty was able to bear down and strike out Mike Mobbs and Travis Weaver consecutively.
Windy City tacked on two more in the sixth as Bily Nowlin added an infield single that plated Brandon Pearl. A hit batsman later would make it 4-0 Thunderbolts.
Washington would get on the board in the seventh. Shain Stoner singled in Robbie Garvey, who led off the inning with a triple off of starter Recchia, breaking up the no-hit bid.
The Thunderbolts claimed that run right back and extended their lead to 5-1 after Chris Wade plated Brandon Pearl. Pearl, who wreaked havoc for Washington pitchers on the afternoon, tripled just one batter before.
Washington would try to rally in the ninth as Michael Mooney made it 5-2 in the ninth, scoring Shain Stoner, but they wouldn't get any closer.
Eric Blackwell, who was signed today by Washington, will be on the mound for the Wild Things in the finale of the series is set for Thursday night at 8:05 p.m. local time. Randy Gore has the call on the flagship station for Wild Things baseball, WJPA beginning at 7:55.
