Wild Things Drop First Exhibition Game, 5-1

Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, began their exhibition season today with a loss to the Lake Erie Crushers, 5-1.

The Crushers scored first, courtesy of a lead-off home run in the top of the first inning by right fielder Robby Kuzdale. Lake Erie recorded twelve hits and five total runs, only two of which were earned.

The Wild Things were held scoreless until the seventh inning, when left fielder Nick Santomauro singled and drove in center fielder Lyndon Poole. Washington went on to record a total of three hits.

Justin Hall started for Washington and lasted four innings. He allowed one earned run on five hits, walked one batter and struck out one. Ross Gusky finished the game, pitching the final two innings. He allowed one hit, three walks, and struck out two batters.

Crushers starting pitcher Paul Fagan spent three innings on the mound and allowed no runs or hits, while striking out three batters. Jonathan Kountis pitched the final inning and did not allow a hit.

The Wild Things face off against the Crushers again tomorrow in a double header, with game one taking place at 10:35 a.m. That game is not open to the general public and is exclusively for local school children who have completed the D.A.R.E. program. Game two is open to the public and will take place at 7:05 p.m. The home opener will take place on Tuesday, May 22nd, with a special Legends Week to kick off the season.
