Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Florence Freedom 10-9 Wednesday at Falconi Field in front of 3,224 fans.

The victory breaks the Wild Things' two game losing streak, and it keeps them tied for first place in the East Division of the Frontier League (Both Chillicothe and Washington are tied at 8-5; while Florence falls to 7-6).

All of the Wild Things batters had hits in the game, and six of the nine had multiple hits, with 3B Lance Koenig and 1B T.J. Graves each tallying three.

Mike Arbinger hit two two-run home runs in the game for the Wild Things.

What looked like it would be an uneventful game found with the Wild Things scrambling in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Wild Things took an early lead, scoring two in the first and two in the second. At one point they led the Freedom by five runs, but Florence fought back and tied the scored at seven in the seventh.

The see-sawing continued through the eighth when Florence scored another run in the top of the inning, and the Wild Things responded with Mike Arbinger hitting his second two-run homer of the evening putting the Wild Things in the lead.

In the top of the ninth inning the Freedom tied the score at nine. But once again, the Wild Things responded in the bottom of the inning when a Chris Carter hit scored Ryan McGraw in the bottom of the ninth with two out.

Reliever Jim Popp got the win pitching one inning, allowing two hits, one run, and striking out one.

The Wild Things and Freedom face off for game two of the three game series Thursday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It's Froggy Radio's Thurst-day when drafts and sodas are available for just one dollar. The game will be broadcast on FSN Pittsburgh. Check your local listings.
