The Gateway Grizzlies scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and let Brandon Smith do his thing. The Grizzlies never looked back, beating the Windy City ThunderBolts 8-3 behind a second straight complete game by Brandon Smith.
The Grizzlies are now 6-7 on the year. The ThunderBolts drop to 5-8.
Smith allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits. He walked just one, and matched his season-high striking out eight.
Ryan Sullivan was 1-3 with a two-run home run for the Grizzlies. Jimmy Reiter was 3-5. Freddy Lopez was 1-5 with a solo home run. Nick Bohnenstiehl was 2-4.
The Grizzlies and ThunderBolts will continue the series with a 7:05 game Thursday night at GMC Stadium. Fans can tune in beginning at 6:50 on 1490 AM WESL.
