Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - Miguel Celestino's wild pitch scored Audy Ciriaco in the top of the 14th and sent the Columbus Clippers to their second extra-innings win in as many nights over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Saturday at McCoy Stadium.
Ciriaco, who drove in the winning run in the 13th inning on Friday night, ripped a one out single to begin the Columbus 14th. He moved to second on Adam Moore's base hit to left field and to third when Ryan Rohlinger grounded into a force out that cut down Moore at second.
Celestino's second wild pitch of the evening scored Ciriaco and withstood a Pawtucket rally in the bottom half of the frame.
With two outs, Jemile Weeks walked before Rusney Castillo singled to right-centerfield to put runners at the corners. But Allen Craig grounded out to end the ballgame and earn Dustin Molleken - who pitched the 13th and 14th innings - his third win of the season.
Travis Shaw had sent the game to extras when he tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.
For much of a night that Toru Murata again held the PawSox offense in check, it looked like Francisco Lindor's two-run triple in the third inning would be more than enough offense for Columbus. Murata authored seven strong innings for the second time in five days.
Jess Todd made his third start for the PawSox and retired the Clippers (21-15) in order in the first. Murata, meanwhile, retired the first nine Pawtucket (21-16) hitters. By the time he completed his perfect first trip through the order, Columbus led by three.
A leadoff walk of Ryan Rohlinger began the Clippers' rally in the third inning. Michael Martinez then singled to right; both would score when Lindor ripped a ball to the wall in left-center field. His third triple was followed by a Tyler Holt single that made it 3-0.
Weeks plated the PawSox first run with his first homer of the season, a solo blast off the foul pole in right that led off the sixth. In the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, Pawtucket had two baserunners against the righthander but could not score.
Bryce Brentz led off the ninth inning with a base-hit to right field off Shawn Armstrong, who was charged with a blown save when he surrendered Shaw's second homer of 2015.
The clubs will conclude the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 P.M. Righthander Keith Couch (1-4, 5.30) will make the start for Pawtucket and be opposed by lefty Michael Roth (3-1, 2.37).
Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 12:50 P.M.
