SWB Game Notes

May 16, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

JACOB'S LADDER: Jacob Lindgren (1-1) fired a season-long 2.2 innings of clutch baseball as his RailRiders defeated the Durham Bulls on Friday night in 11 innings, 8-4. SWB pitching compiled a season-best 17 strikeouts while the Bulls fell for the fourth time in five games.

TRIPLE LINDY: A four-run lead had vanished with the tying tally crossing after a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. Lindgren then entered and recorded two pivotal strikeouts in succession against heralded prospect/three-hole hitter Mikie Mahtook and big league veteran J.P. Arencibia to quell the threat. In the ninth, the southpaw allowed a two-out swinging bunt single, but no runs. He followed that with a 1-2-3 10th against the top of the order. He has owned his fellow lefties, holding them to a .105 average (2-for-19) with two walks against five strikeouts.

KEEP ON GETTIN' ON: Rob Refsnyder singled, walked and stole a bag to extend the IL's best active on-base streak to 17 games. His on-base run started in game two of the April 25 doubleheader versus Pawtucket. In that time, he has hit .362 while posting an OBP of .436 and 10 of his 13 RBIs. His 11 doubles had him co-leading active IL players entering today after Maikel Franco's 12 two-base hits received a promotion to the Phillies. Refsnyder has crushed in 14 road games (.322/.394/.441/.835) compared to 17 home games (.254/.306/.313/.619).

LORD I WAS BORN A GAMELING MAN: Ben Gamel went 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs. He has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-15 in that time to lift his average to .340, good for the IL's eighth-best mark entering today.

TAKE YOUR BASE: Ramon Flores was walked intentionally as a pinch hitter in the 11th and later scored. He has reached base safely in 24 of his last 25 games including a 16-gamer (April 15-May 5).

WHAT A COINKYDINK: Starter Kyle Davies left in line for the win after five frames of two-run ball. He recorded a season-high seven strikeouts. It marked the most strikeouts for Davies since he also whiffed seven on June 12, 2014 in a win for Columbus against SWB. He has not had more than seven strikeouts since he notched nine on April 24, 2014 with Double-A Akron against Trenton. The Thunder had four current RailRiders in its lineup that day: Gamel, Refsnyder, Kyle Roller and Rob Segedin.

SHUT HER DOWN: Four SWB relievers combined to allow just one unearned run over the game's last six innings. That included a perfect 11th by Danny Burawa with a pair of strikeouts. Burawa has not allowed an earned run in 13 of his 15 outings and has held the league to 11 hits in 20 innings (.162 BAA) while whiffing 14 and walking eight (0.95 WHIP).

INHERITANCE TAX: SWB's bullpen inherited five runners and none scored.

DOUBLE-DIPPIN': Seven of the RailRiders' 12 hits were doubles. SWB leads the league with 67 two-base knocks.

MILLER TIME: Former RailRider and New York Yankee Jim Miller tossed 3.2 scoreless innings for Durham. He allowed just one hit, walked none and whiffed four.

RISPY BUSINESS: Durham stranded 14 men on base and went 2-for-16 with men in scoring position.

FREE BASEBALL: The RailRiders improved to 3-0 in extra-inning games while Durham fell to 0-3 in free baseball.

PLAYING QUARTERS: With the team's 36th game of the 144-game season in the books, the RailRiders are 25% of the way through their 2015 regular season.

BIPPITY, BABIPY BOO: Former Durham Bull and current RailRider Cole Figueroa entered today as the IL's toughest man to whiff (30:1 PA/K).
