Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of last-minute call-ups led to a battle between spot starters as reliever Michael Bowden outdueled Triple-A rookie Matt Benedict in the Norfolk Tides' 2-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday night at Victory Field.

Benedict (0-1), who made his Triple-A debut in place of regularly-scheduled starter Wilfredo Boscan, tossed five solid innings with two runs on four hits and two strikeouts. He allowed just one extra-base hit - a double to Chris Parmelee - and induced 10 groundouts during the defeat.

His counterpart Bowden (2-1) also went five innings but earned the win with a scoreless effort through his longest outing of the season.

After Bowden gave way to the bullpen, Deibinson Romero drove home the Tribe's (21-16) lone run with a double to left field off Pedro Beato in the bottom of the sixth.

Hunter Morris singled in the ninth inning to put the tying run on base with no outs, but Norfolk (20-16) closer Oliver Drake retired his next three batters to halt the rally and preserve the victory.
