KANNAPOLIS, NC - Dylan Cozens scored on a wild pitch to break a 4-4 tie in the 8th inning and the BlueClaws got four scoreless innings out of their bullpen in a 5-4 win over Kannapolis on Friday night at CMC Northeast Stadium.
Julio Reyes (2-3) threw three scoreless innings, getting out of a first and third, one out jam in the 7th, to earn his second win of the year. Dan Child, who joined the BlueClaws on Monday from Clearwater, earned his first save with the BlueClaws and fifth as a professional.
In Lakewood's wins on Thursday and Friday, the bullpen has combined to throw 8.1 scoreless innings in two one-run wins.
The win for the BlueClaws (11-18/38-60) was their second straight and put them at 3-1 on their current road trip - they took two of three in Hickory before opening the Kannapolis four-game series with a win.
Lakewood, in a tie game, got a lead-off double from Cozens in the 8th inning and he was at third with two outs when Tyler Barneette (2-7) uncorked a wild pitch to bring in Cozens with the go-ahead run.
Kannapolis (15-14/44-52) homered leading off each of the first two innings against Lakewood starter Ranfi Casimiro - Adam Engel starting the first and Jacob Morris starting the 2nd. Engel's home run marked the second straight game the opposing lead-off hitter has homered in the 1st inning after Hickory's Evan Van Hoosier did so on Thursday.
The BlueClaws tied the game at 1 in the 2nd inning on the 8th home run of Samuel Hiciano's season and took a 4-2 lead in the 3rd inning on a two-run single by Zach Green and an RBI double by Willians Astudillo.
Andrew Pullin, Andrew Knapp, Cozens, and Astudillo all had two hits for Lakewood.
The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05. LHP Matt Imhof (--) makes his BlueClaws debut opposite RHP Robinson Leyer (5-6, 3.28).
