(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power won in walk-off fashion over Rome Braves on Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park 9-8. The Power scored three runs in the ninth to walk-off for the first time this season on a Danny Collins walk that plated Reese McGuire.
The Braves put one on the board in the first on an RBI groundout but the Power responded in the bottom half with a run on a Reese McGuire sacrifice fly.
Rome would put three on the board in the third behind RBI base knocks from Sean Godfrey and Carlos Franco. The Braves pushed three more across in the sixth when Ross Wilson and Tanner Kritemeier tallied RBI singles.
West Virginia fought back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and then two more in the seventh with a Jeff Roy two-run home run.
Then, in the ninth, JaCoby Jones mashed a two-run home run to tie the game at eight. The Power loaded the bases and Danny Collins walked to bring home the winning run.
Zack Von Rosenberg (1-1) earned the win while Matt Kimbrel (0-1) was charged with the loss. Edwin Espinal tallied a three-hit game in the West Virginia victory.
West Virginia hosts the Rome Braves on Saturday, July 19, at Appalachian Power Park. Dovydas Neverauskas will toe the rubber against the Braves Chris Diaz. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
