Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- Robert Gsellman gave himself some very nice 21st birthday presents: 10 strikeouts and a win Saturday in the Gnats' 5-1 victory over the Lexington Legends at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats' win snapped a five-game losing streak.

The Sand Gnats (17-11/61-33) grabbed a 2-0 lead with two runs in the second inning on sacrifice flies by the final two hitters in the order, catcher Colton Plaia and leftfielder Patrick Biondi.

The Legends (11-18/40-59) scored their only run against Gsellman in the third inning on an infield single by centerfielder Elier Hernandez. Gsellman stranded two runners in the inning, and then found his groove. From the end of the third inning through the seventh, he retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced, eight by strikeout. His 10 whiffs were a new season-high.

The Gnats tacked on single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings. In the fourth, centerfielder Champ Stuart singled home Biondi. Stuart finished 2-for-5 with a double, the Gnats' only extra-base hit, and the RBI.

First baseman Matt Oberste singled in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

The Gnats will send RHP John Michael Gant (9-5, 2.97) to the mound Saturday against LHP Luis Rico (3-6, 4.42).
