Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC - The Texas Rangers announced today that Hickory Crawdads RHP Josh McElwee has been promoted to the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, becoming the seventh 'Dad this season to move up in the Rangers organization.

McElwee, 25, leaves Hickory with 57 strikeouts in just 36 innings pitched for a K/9 IP ratio of 14.25, a number that would have led all South Atlantic League relievers if he had enough innings pitched to qualify. A 20th round pick by the Rangers out of the University of South Carolina - Sumter in 2012, McElwee went 2-0 overall with a 4.25 ERA, 6 saves, and a .246 batting average against for the Crawdads this year. McElwee also spent time with the 'Dads in 2013, going 2-1 with a 10.13 ERA and 22 Ks in 13.1 IP.

Replacing McElwee on the Crawdads active roster is RHP Collin Wiles, who began the season with the 'Dads before going on the disabled list on May 18th. Wiles, 20, went 1-2 with a 5.49 ERA over eight appearances, two starts, totaling 19.2 IP for Hickory. A 1st round selection by the Rangers out of Blue Valley West (KS) HS in 2012, Wiles rejoins the Crawdads after allowing four runs on 4.2 IP over two relief appearances in the AZL.

McElwee joins fellow 2014 Crawdads Cody Kendall, Kevin Pucetas, Lewis Brinson, Nick Vickerson, Abel De Los Santos, and Kevin Torres on the Pelicans roster.
