Asheville Tourists News Release
WINSTON-SALEM- The Asheville Tourists were down a run and down to their final strike on Thursday when John Garcia clubbed a two-run go-ahead double in the top of the ninth. The Winston-Salem Dash rebounded in the bottom of the ninth, scored two of their own, and walked off on Asheville 6-5.
The Tourists built a 3-0 lead thanks to some early offense. Luis Baez hit a solo Home Run in the top of the first to open the scoring. In the second, Garret Guillemette drove in Narbe Cruz with an RBI single and Jeron Williams' Sac Fly put Asheville in front 3-0.
The Dash rallied for three runs in the bottom of the second and took the lead on a Jacob Gonzalez RBI single in the fourth. The score remained 4-3 all the way up until the Tourists ninth inning rally. Williams and Ryan Johnson both reached base before Garcia came through in the clutch.
Asheville's pitching trio of Derek True, James Hicks, and Deury Carrasco combined to strike out ten. Cruz, Baez, and Guillemette all tallied multiple hits in the contest. The Tourists will attempt to even up the series on Friday night. The first pitch is set for 7:00pm ET.
