Drew Martinez scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 9th to give the Owlz an 8-7 comeback win over the Ogden Raptors on Tuesday Night.

The Owlz had a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, but the Raptors scored five runs to take a 7-6 lead.

Matt Shelton came in for the save in the top of the 9th, but he could not hold on, as Ryan Jones led off the inning with a walk. Frazier Hall came up next and belted a ball to the gap to score Jones from first. Martinez came in to pinch-run for Hall and went to third on a ground out by Kaleb Cowart. Michael Drowne came in to relieve Shelton and threw a wild pitch that allowed Martinez to score.

Orem (8-2) took an early 3-0 lead on a solo home run by Chris Giovinazzo and a 2-run homer by Ryan Jones. The home run by Jones hit on top of the roof of a building behind the right field fence. Ogden (1-9) got two back in the bottom of the frame on a 2-run home run by Scott Woodward off of Daniel Vargas-Vila. Vargas-Vila had his second straight good outing, going five innings, giving up two runs and striking out seven.

In the bottom of the 8th, Danny Reynolds came in with the score 6-2 and two runners on and two outs. The reliable closer struggled giving up four straight hits, which allowed the Raptors to take the lead.

Suammy Baez relieved Reynolds and struck out Matt Kirkland. Baez went 1.1 innings, striking out four, including the side in the bottom of the 9th.

Orem has now won five in a row, all against Ogden, and is tied with Casper for first place in the South division. Game two of the three game series is Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
