Peacock's Revenge: Chukars Win 6-4
Published on August 10, 2011 under Pioneer League (PL)
Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
In his last start Idaho Falls starting pitcher Brian Peacock lasted just two innings and allowed five runs in a loss in Casper, but Wednesday night Peacock reasserted himself as a top Pioneer League pitcher as he allowed just two runs and struck out seven in a 6-4 Chukars win over the Ghosts at Melaleuca Field.
Peacock (3-4) actually held the Ghosts hitless through the first four innings, before giving up both his runs in the fifth on a two-out, 2-run home run by Casper designated hitter Francisco Sosa. Peacock would finish the night with five innings pitched, allowing two runs on just two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Offensively the Chukars had their second straight double-digit hits night off Casper pitchers, this time knocking around 12 hits, two of them home runs.
The scoring started in the second when designated hitter Henry Moreno doubled off the right field wall and came in one out later on an RBI single by right fielder Chris Elder. Elder would also come in one out later on a bloop RBI single from left fielder Darian Sandford to put Idaho Falls up 2-0.
The Chukars would make it a 5-0 lead with three more runs in the third inning. After second baseman Luis Piterson doubled and scored on a wild pitch, first baseman Dean Espy lifted a 2-run homer over the left field wall for his fifth long ball of the season.
Following the Ghosts two-run fifth inning, the Chukars would tack on one final run in the sixth thanks to an opposite field solo home run by right fielder Chris Elder to make the lead 6-2.
Casper would add on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but Chukars closer Edwin Carl would retire the final six batters of the game all via strikeout to record his third save of the year.
Ghosts starter Patrick Johnson (0-3) would take the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits over his season high five innings pitched.
The Chukars (4-7) will go for the 3-game sweep of the Ghosts (8-3) Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
