GREAT FALLS, MONT - Jesse Darrah pitched five no-hit innings, while the Missoula Osprey managed to get just enough run support in a 2-1 win over the Great Falls Voyagers on Tuesday here at Centene Stadium in front of 1,773 witnesses.
The Osprey (6-4, 31-17) scored twice in the top of the third inning off of Voyager starter Pete Gehle (3-6). Justin Bianco walked, Breland Brown singled and after Fidel Pena laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached when Great Falls first baseman Jimmy Jacquot dropped the ball on the tag attempt of Pena, the bases were loaded. With Ryan Court at the plate, a wild pitch scored Bianco, and Court plated Brown with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 Osprey lead.
That seemed to be plenty for Darrah (4-0), who pitched five hitless innings, allowing three walks and collecting four strikeouts, plus received two stellar defensive plays by Court at third and left-fielder Ty Linton.
Conrad Flynn carried the no-hitter until two were away in the sixth, when Great Falls second baseman Joe De Pinto ended both the no-no and the shutout with a solo home run to left field, cutting the Missoula advantage to 2-1. Flynn settled down, allowing just three hits in his three innings of work. DJ Johnson struck out the side in the ninth to finish off the win and pick up his fifth save in six chances.
Roidany Aguila doubled, while Court, Jeremia Gomez and Jon Griffin each added a base hit for the Osprey in the win.
The Osprey will begin a four-game stretch with the Helena Brewers with a two-game series at Kindrick Legion Field beginning Wednesday. Left-hander Taylor Siemens will get the start for the Osprey in the series opener, while the Brewers will counter with right-hander Andy Moye.
The Osprey will return home to begin their longest homestand of the season on Friday, August 12. Tickets for all remaining games this season are now on sale at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 N. Higgins, by phone at (406) 543-3300 or online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
