Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS Mont.--In a night dominated pitching, Missoula outdueled the Voyagers, picking up a 2-1 victory in the series finale.
Jesse Darrah (4-0) went five innings of no-hit, scoreless baseball, setting the tone for the Osprey. The righty struck out four and walked three, but was never really in a jam during his outing.
With Darrah out of the game and the Voyagers traiing 2-0 with two outs in the sixth, Joe De Pinto got the team its first hit and first run as he connected on his fourth home run of the season off of Conrad Flynn. Flynn followed up the sixth inning with a perfect seventh, but got into a jam in the eighth. Holding onto a one run lead, the Missoula righty struck out De Pinto with two on and two outs to end the threat.
D.J. Johnson (S,5) flawlessly collected the save, striking out the side on just ten pitches--one more than the minimum. Johnson faced the middle-third of the Voyagers lineup: Mark Haddow, Jimmy Jacquot, and Kevan Smith.
Peter Gehle (3-6) was the tough luck loser. The lefty, who is now 0-5 at home this season, gave up two runs on only one hit in six innings, striking out five and walking just one. In the third inning, the Osprey loaded the bases with nobody out and on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Ryan Court, they collected their lone runs of the game.
After Gehle, the Voyagers bullpen kept them within reach as Kevin Vance--two innings with four strikeouts--and Joe Dvorsky--one inning with one strikeout--did not give up a run.
Despite the loss, the Voyagers remain atop the North division with a 7-3 record, one game better than Missoula. The Voyagers missed out on an opportunity to climb to two games above .500 for the first time this season with the loss.
The Voyagers begin their longest road trip of the season tomorrow as they will play 11 straight games away from Centene Stadium in the span of 12 days. The trip begins with four games in Bllings against the Mustangs. First pitch from Dehler Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show set to begin at 6:40 p.m. on 560 KMON.
