Wild Clinch Fairbanks Series with 2-1 Shootout Win
November 17, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release
As the Wenatchee Wild prepare for the trip back home to Washington, they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done and call this weekend a success after taking Game Three with a victorious 2-1 shootout final. With this win, Wenatchee will take the series two games to Fairbanks' one and advance in the NAHL's South Division with 18 total points. Wenatchee and Rio Grande are now tied for 5th in the division and the Wild have also improved to a .450 win percentage. To end the night, Wenatchee out shot the Ice Dogs 38-31 and both David Powlowski and Zach Quinn took home Stars of the Game (1st and 2nd Star).
Fairbanks was the first to light the lamp in this match up when Ethan Somoza scored an unassisted goal exactly three minutes into the game. To tie both teams up at one point each, David Powlowski put Wenatchee on the board at 19:39 with help from Troy Conzo and Chris Jones. Powlowski's goal would be the last scored in regulation time.
There was no scoring in the second period, the third period, or the overtime period, therefore a shootout had to be forced to end the game. Here are the results:
Wenatchee:
David Powlowski - yes
Troy Conzo - no
Jake Ahlgren - no
Brendan Harris - yes
Fairbanks:
Ethan Somoza - no
Todd Burgess - no
Ryner Gorowsky - no
Jacob Hetz - no
In this battle of strength, the Wild were called on 6 penalties and infractions went to Colin Burston (Tripping), David Powlowski (Slashing) (Roughing), Coach Bliss Littler (Too Many Men (Bench Minor)), Brendan Harris (Tripping), and Dan Bailey (Tripping). Wenatchee ended this game with a shot record of 10-13-9-5-1 for a total of 38 shots on Fairbanks' goal.
Zach Quinn was a very strong asset for the Wild tonight, letting only one goal past his grasp, and was able to finish with 30 saves out of 31 total shots on goal after 65 minutes between the pipes.
After tonight's events, Coach Littler said, "Nice team effort. Very proud of our boys. It started in goal with a very good night by Quinn. I thought our compete level was very good."
The Wild's next games will be on November 21st and 22nd when the team heads to Soldotna, Alaska to take on their fierce rivals, the Kenai River Brown Bears, for a two game series. Both matches will start at 8:30 pm PST. Don't miss out!
