Aberdeen Wings News Release
After a thrilling final second game-winning goal for the Wings on Friday night, Aberdeen traveled to take on the Bismarck Bobcats in NAHL action.
The first period would go scoreless, but in the second, the Bobcats would get on top at 5:32 mark with a goal from Matt Perry. The 1-0 lead would be increased later in the period with a 3-on-1 breakaway goal from Evan Geisler. Wings forward #8 Drew Doyon (F-Indianapolis, IN) would score his 4th goal of the season at the 17:19 mark with assists from #17 Will Hammer (F-St. Cloud, MN) and #29 Matt Sherman (D-White Lake, MI).
Down 2-1 coming out of the locker room, the Wings would set the tone for the first minute of the final period. Just 27 seconds in, Wings defenseman #6 Michael Heidkamp would send a shot in on goal with a redirect from Wings #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI), that would tie the game up a 2-2. Incredibly, 20 seconds later, Wings forward #14 Collin Hughes (F-Lino Lakes, MN) would skate and deke Bobcats defenders to score giving the Wings a 3-2 lead. Assists credited to #29 Matt Sherman (F-White Lake, MI). After a hooking penalty on the Wings, the Bobcats would score on the power play to tie it up 3-3. At the 14:20 mark, Wings forward #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) would score a goal with assist from #4 Eric Moser (D-Chicago, IL). The 4-3 lead wouldn't last long as the Bobcats would quickly answer ending regulation 4-4.
The Wings, ending regulation on the power play, would enter the overtime period with 4-on-3 advantage. Wings defenseman #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN) would have the puck all alone at the point and blast a goal past the Bobcats goaltender for the 5-4 overtime win.
