WhiteWings Walk-Off Winners in Game 1 of Doubleheader

HARLINGEN - Leivi Ventura led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a home run to send the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a walk-off victory over the San Angelo Colts 5-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday at Harlingen Field.

It was Ventura's ninth home run of the season and on the fifth pitched thrown by Chace Vacek (0-1).

Down 2-0 right away, the WhiteWings (26-20) responded against Adam Kramer in the bottom of the inning when David Peralta lined his 11th home run of the season into the Colts' bullpen down the right field line to make it 2-1.

Peralta led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and stole second. Two outs later, Wilmer Pino hit an RBI-single to tie the game.

Kramer walked the bases loaded with one out in the fifth, setting up a sacrifice fly by Peralta to make it 3-2.

The Colts (28-16) jumped on Eddie Dennis Jr. right away. With one out in the top of the first, Cory Patton and Daryl Jones hit back-to-back doubles, followed by consecutive singles by Landon Camp and Davis Page to make it 2-0.

That was it until the sixth, when Jason Crosland drew a leadoff walk to knock out Dennis. Mark Ramos reached on a fielder's choice error against Danny Rondon (3-3). One out later, Andrew Riddick hit an RBI-single and moved to second on the throw. Ronnie Gaines followed with an infield-single that moved Riddick to third, from where he scored on an error to give the Colts a 4-3 lead.

Gabriel Ortiz hit a two-out RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth against Gorman Romero to tie the game.

The WhiteWings and Colts play games two of this double-header in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (4-3, 7.08) is expected pitch for the WhiteWings.
