Lake County Fielders News Release
The Lake County Fielders lost to the Chico Outlaws Wednesday night 10-5 from Fielders Stadium.
In what was a game full of many mistakes, as both teams combined for 10 errors, Chico began early and came out on top.
Fielders starting pitcher Ryan Gunderson lasted only 2.1 innings in tonight ¬â¢s matchup, giving up five runs (one earned) on three hits with five walks. He began the game by walking Outlaws ¬â¢ leadoff hitter Jay Pecci, who eventually scored via an error on Fielders ¬â¢ second baseman Zach Getsee to make it an early 1-0 Chico lead.
The Fielders came right back in the bottom of the first though, as John Dziamba led off the inning with a leadoff triple, and eventually scored on Alan Rick ¬â¢s single down the first base line. Chris Brown followed up Rick ¬â¢s single with a base hit of his own, and both were scored on David Coleman ¬â¢s base hit turned triple as the ball went past the Chico left fielder to make it a 3-1 Fielders lead.
But that lead did not last long as the Outlaws scored one in the second inning to cut the lead to 3-2, and then opened the game up in the third inning. Chico ¬â¢s center fielder Chris Lubanski led off the third inning by reaching first via a throwing error by Dziamba. After a walk to Al Quintana and a wild pitch, the Fielders ¬â¢ left fielder Coleman dropped a fly ball that allowed Lubanski to score and tie up the game at 3-3. Danny Gonzalez then doubled down the third base line, driving in one run, and then scored himself via a Brad Payne throwing error to make it a 5-3 Chico lead.
In the top of the fourth the Chico Outlaws were at it again, having the bases loaded with nobody out to begin the inning. They only managed to score one run on a double play ball to make it a 6-3 lead. In the bottom portion of the inning, the Fielders did manage to score one run on a Getsee RBI groundout, driving in Coleman who reached on base via an error. This cut the lead to 6-4.
But the Outlaws once again scored in the 5th inning, as Kurt Steinhauer drove in Pecci to increase their lead to 7-4.
After a break in scoring for three innings, the Outlaws scored three more runs in the top of the 8th inning, while the Fielders added one more in the bottom portion, making the final score 10-5.
Top performers for Lake County in the game were Dziamba (2-5 with a triple and run scored), Payne (2-4 with a walk), Brown (2-3 with two runs scored and one walk) and Coleman (2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored).
Mike Luke got the loss for the Fielders in tonight ¬â¢s game, going 5.2 innings giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Nick Kennedy also threw one scoreless inning of relief and added two strikeouts.
With the loss, the Fielders remain in first place ahead of the Edmonton Capitals.
Lake County will face Chico once again tomorrow night for the third game of the series at 7p.m.
