Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals squared off against the provincial rival Calgary Vipers on Wednesday night in the second game of a three-game series at Foothills Stadium. The Caps were looking to bounce back from a narrow loss the night before, but ended up losing their second game in a row 11-6 at the hands of the Vipers.

The Caps' offence was spread out over the course of the game. First baseman Brent Metheny chipped in with two RBI, while shortstop Enrique Cruz and second baseman Matt Rogelstad had one RBI each. Rogelstad led the Caps with four hits on the night. But Edmonton's bats came up short of Calgary's as they were unable to produce much more and failed to match the 11 runs put up by the home side.

Lou Pote took to the mound as the Caps' starting pitcher and ran into some trouble in the third and fifth innings when he gave up five runs in both, leading to the 11-3 deficit the Caps faced heading into the sixth inning. Both Mike Hrynio and Bartolome Fortunato tossed for the Caps later in the game and managed to keep the Vipers at bay by not surrendering any further runs.

The Caps and Vipers will play the last game of the three-game series in Calgary on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. As a result of Wednesday's defeat, Edmonton's record falls to 27-19 on the North American League season. The race in the North Division remains tight as the Lake County Fielders (25-16) are just 0.5 games ahead of both the Caps and the Vipers (28-20).

The Caps finally make their return to TELUS Field to host the Vipers and continue the battle of Alberta Friday through Sunday. The Friday 7 p.m. game is another Fireworks Friday presented by 92.5 JOE FM, while Saturday is a special 2 p.m. afternoon start. Sunday's game is also schedule for 2 p.m. and it's Cheemo Ukrainian Day, as well as Family Pack Sunday presented by Dental Choice and 630 CHED, as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for just $52.
