Roadrunners Drop Second in a Row

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped their second game in a row to the McAllen Thunder after an 8-3 loss Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 3,921.

Antoin Gray gave the Thunder (17-29) the 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning off of James Giulietti (0-2).

The Roadrunners (21-26) answered back in the bottom of the first with a two-run triple by Stantrel Smith that drove in Robert Matlock and Osiel Flores giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Gabe Memmert hit an RBI double that allowed C.J. Beatty to score pushing the Roadrunners lead 3-1.

The Thunder tied the game in the top of the fourth. Yaibel Tamayo delivered an RBI double to right center that allowed Gray to score from first. Two outs later, Adam Matos hit an RBI single scoring Tamayo and tying the game three.

Tamayo gave McAllen the lead with a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning that scored Eric Eiland and Gray to score. Luke Hetherington followed with an RBI single scoring Tamayo from third and then Matos followed with an RBI double which made it 7-3 McAllen.

McAllen added an insurance run in the top of the eighth when Hetherington hit an RBI single to right field that allowed Wilson Batista to score extending their lead 8-3.

Frank James (2-1) would not allow another run past the third inning earning his second victory of the season. He also walked two and struck out three in seven innings pitched.

Justin Jordan pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth giving McAllen the 8-3 victory.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the final game of their four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Aaron Guerra (4-5) is expected to face Alien Mora (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
