WhiteWings Lose to Ft Worth 3-2

August 20, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

FORT WORTH- Blake Parry pitched seven shutout innings and Chuck Caufield drove in two runs and scored another to spoil Reymond Cruz's first start in three years for Rio Grande Valley, 3-2, at LaGrave Field Monday night.

Parry (6-3), who pitched for Edinburg last season, allowed just four hits while walking as many and striking out three.

Perhaps most importantly, however, he benefited early on by having three WhiteWings baserunners thrown out in the early innings when Alex Ruiz and Ruddy Yan were caught stealing in the second and third and Roberto Rodriguez was thrown out by left fielder Chad Gabriel in the third trying to stretch a single into a double.

Meanwhile, Caufield, a high school teammate of WhiteWings pitcher Clint Bowker in Ada, Okla., scored the first run of the game when he doubled with one out, then advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Caufield then drove in two more runs on a triple to centerfield with two outs in the sixth to chase Cruz (0-1).

The WhiteWings rallied in the ninth off Cats righthanded closer Jeff Jamnik when Roberto Rodriguez hit a 2-run, two out double. Fort Worth manager Curtis Wilkerson then ordered switch-hitting Yan walked intentionally to put the winning run on base to face .330 hitting Bryan Marquez, a righthanded hitter. But Jamnik was able to strike out the North American Baseball League's leader in on base percentage on four pitches to record his 19th save.
