Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - Luany Sanchez hit his first home run since joining the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to tie the game in bottom of the eighth, but the Edinburg Roadrunners scored three runs in the top of the ninth to win 6-3 on Friday at Harlingen Field.

With the WhiteWings (37-38) down 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Domenic Di Ricco hit a leadoff single against Ricardo Serrano (3-1). One out later, Sanchez hit his second home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3.

The WhiteWings turned to Jose Nieto (0-3) out of the bullpen in the top of the ninth. With one out, Osiel Flores and Adam Matos singled and moved to second and third when the ball was kicked in centerfield. After an intentional walk of Albert Gonzalez, Wilmer Pino hit a sacrifice fly to score Flores and move Matos to third. The throw to third got away, allowing Matos to score and Gonzalez to move to second. Robert Matlock followed with an RBI-single to make it 6-3 Roadrunners.

Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his 20th save.

The Roadrunners (44-29) scored against David Cross in the top of the second. Ambiorix Concepcion led off with a single and stole second. Wilson Batista followed with an RBI-single to make it 1-0.

The WhiteWings responded against Jose Pablo Oyervidez in the bottom of the second. With runners at first and third and two outs, the WhiteWings pulled off a double-steal to tie the game at 1-1.

That was it against Oyervidez, who scattered three hits and four walks in seven innings while striking out seven.

Nelson Teilon led off the top of the fourth with an infield-single. One out later, Batista hit an RBI-double and Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI-single to make it 3-1 Roadrunners.

That was it against Cross, who struck out five in eight innings while allowing seven hits and one walk.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners complete this five-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Fans will receive rally towels and thundersticks, presented by AT&T Real Yellow Pages. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (5-5) is expected to face right-hander Tim Haines (3-8).
