
Roadrunners Complete Doubleheader Sweep of WhiteWings

The Edinburg Roadrunners batted around in a five-run sixth in an 11-6 win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in seven innings in game two of a doubleheader on Thursday at Harlingen Field.
The Roadrunners (43-29) scored against Johnny Montoya (0-2) right away. Wilmer Pino and Felix Molina led off with singles. Nelson Teilon hit an RBI-double to score Pino and a wild pitch scored Molina. One out later, Wilson Batista hit an RBI-groundout to make it 3-0.
The WhiteWings (38-37) responded against Carlos Rangel in the bottom of the first. Javis Diaz led off with an infield-single and stole second. Domenic Di Ricco drew a four-pitch walk. One out later, Leivi Ventura hit an RBI-single. One out after that, Welinson Baez reached on an error to score Di Ricco and Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI-double to tie the game at 3-3.
Roberto Rodriguez led off the bottom of the second with a triple and scored on a single by Diaz to give the WhiteWings a 4-3 lead.
With one out in the top of the third, Montoya plinked Molina and Teilon reached on a fielder's choice error. Ambiorix Concepcion singled, Batista hit an RBI-single, Carlos Hereaurd reached on an RBI-fielder's choice and Robert Matlock hit his first home run since 2008 to make it 8-4 Roadrunners.
The WhiteWings put runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the third and scored one run on a balk to make it 8-5.
Teilon hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot off of Tate Kelly in the top of the fourth, to make it 10-5 Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners added a run against catcher-turned-pitcher Luany Sanchez in the top of the sixth on an RBI-single by Hereaud.
That made a winner of Evan Cunningham (1-1), who pitched the fifth and sixth innings. The only run he gave up was on Ventura's 18th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth.
The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game four of this five-game series on Fan Fly Away Friday, presented by Allegiant Air, Univision, Que Pasa and Jose 101 at 7:05 p.m., when one lucky fan will win two free round trip tickets on Allegiant Air. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander David Cross (5-5) is expected to face right-hander Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-0).
The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that has sent two players to Major League Baseball in Edwar Ramirez (New York Yankees) and Robinson Cancel (New York Mets). In its fifth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, Robstown and San Angelo.
