San Angelo Colts News Release


Amarillo, TX---After splitting the first two games of the series the Colts look to take the lead in game three against Amarillo. It was a battle of former big leaguers as Ezequiel Astacio (Astros) toed the rubber for the Colts against Jermaine Van Buren (Red Sox and Cubs) took the hill for the Dillas. It was Van Buren who won the battle going seven innings, allowing five hits, one run, did not walk a batter and struck out nine as Amarillo won the war in 6-1 victory over San Angelo.

Amarillo scored single runs in the second and third inning on RBI singles by Rob Recuenco in the first and Julio Martinez in the second to get out to a 2-0 lead. Amarillo would add a pair in the sixth on an RBI triple by Jermel Lomack that drove in two and was almost a third, but Lomack was thrown out at the plate trying for the inside-the-park homerun on a great block at home by Colts catcher Tyler Goodro, but it was 4-0 Amarillo.

The Colts would score their lone run in the top of the seventh on an RBI ground out by Jason Crosland to make it 4-1. The Dillas would add single runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth on a leadoff homerun by Carlos Figuero (4) and an RBI double by Rob Recuenco, his second RBI of the night, to make it 6-1 which would be your final. Despite what his final numbers looked like, Astacio pitched well going the distance, throwing eight innings, allowing six runs on thirteen hits, walking two, while striking out eight; he also threw 120 pitches, 74 of them for strikes.

On Saturday the Colts and Dillas play the final game of their four game series as San Angelo tries for the split. San Angelo sends out right-hander Chandler Barnard (6-3, 3.00) who is second in the league in ERA against righty Ryan Mitchell (5-3, 4.08) for Amarillo. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
