Dillas defeat Colts 6-1 behind strong start from Van Buren

AMARILLO, TX - Jermaine Van Buren was masterful on the mound for the Amarillo Dillas on Friday night, allowing only one run off five hits in seven innings as the Dillas defeated the San Angelo Colts 6-1 in front of 2,054 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Van Buren (1-0) struck out nine and walked none in just his second start for the Dillas. Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio (6-6) went all eight innings for the Colts, allowing 12 hits and six runs while striking out eight in the effort.
The Dillas got on the board in the second inning as Julio Martinez reached on a pop fly infield single, stole second and scored on a Rob Recuenco RBI single for a 1-0 Amarillo lead.
They added one more in the third as Joaquin Rodriguez hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on a Martinez RBI single for a 2-0 Dillas advantage.
Van Buren and Astacio kept each team off the board until the sixth. Stephen Douglas led off with a single, followed by a Recuenco single. Jermel Lomack would score them both with a two-out triple for a 4-0 Amarillo lead.
The Colts got their first run in the seventh as Jason Landreth led off with a single, went to third on a Josh Collazo double and scored on a Jason Crosland RBI groundout for a 4-1 deficit.
Amarillo immediately got the run back as Carlos Figueroa hit a solo homerun in the seventh, while Recenco doubled to score Douglas in the eighth for a 6-1 Dillas lead.
New Dillas pitcher J.R. Boling finished the last two innings to give the Dillas a five-run win over the Colts.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 43-32 while the Colts fall to 37-38. Saturday, Amarillo will take on the Colts for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
