COMSTOCK PARK - Erik Averill has fallen on tough times as a starting pitcher for the Whitecaps. For the third time in his last four starts West Michigan was shutout, 5-0 by Fort Wayne.

Averill has lost each of his last four starts with a combined two runs of support.

The Wizards scored in four different innings. Seth Johnston delivered an RBI double in the second, Drew Davidson had a two-run triple in the fourth, A. J. Davidiuk knocked in a run on a single in the sixth and Davidson scored on a double play ground out in the eighth.

Pedro Cotto was one of the few bright spots for the Whitecaps, who collected eight hits but left eight on base. Cotto went 3-for-4 at the plate to snap a 3-for-34 slump.

Jarrett Gardner threw six innings as the Fort Wayne starting pitcher and combined with Joakim Soria and Vern Sterry on the shutout.

West Michigan has lost 10 of its last 17 games including a 1-4 mark against the Wizards during that span.
