Chiefs edge Swing 3-2

Peoria, IL - After an eight game road trip and two consecutive off days, the Peoria Chiefs returned home to defeat the Swing of the Quad Cities 3-2 Thursday night at O'Brien Field in front of 5,161 fans.

Kyle Reynolds continued his hot hitting with the score tied 2-2 in the fifth. Leading off the inning, the left-handed hitter rocketed a solo shot to right, his ninth long ball of the season, to give the Chiefs a 3-2 lead.

The Chiefs got on the board first in the second. Ryan Norwood and Ryne Malone both singled to lead off the inning. One out later, Kyle Reynolds delivered a sacrifice fly to score Norwood from third. With two outs, Malone at third and Yusuf Carter at the plate, the Chiefs outfielder singled on a liner to center to make it a 2-0 game.

The Swing came back to tie it in their half of the fourth. With two outs and runners on the corners, Daniel Nelson bounced a single up the middle to plate Casey Rowlett. Shane Robinson ripped a double just inside the bag at third base to score Daryl Jones and knot the game at two apiece.

Fabien Jimenez picked up his first win in a Chiefs uniform. The southpaw went five innings and allowed two runs on eight hits. Jesse Estrada came on in relief and fired two shutout frames. Scott Koerber held it for the Chiefs in the eighth, and Matt Avery closed it out in the ninth to pick up save number 18 on the year. Quad Cities starter Adam Ottavino suffered the loss, tossing six innings and giving up three runs on four hits.

Pepsi Player of the Game Kyle Reynolds (3B) - The Chiefs infielder was 1-2 including a long solo HR to right. Reynolds totaled two RBIs on the night. Notes... The home run by Reynolds was his second in as many games...Attendance Thursday night was 5,161... RHP Todd Blackford (9-8, 5.54) will be on the mound tomorrow going up against RHP Trey Hearne (11-3, 2.27) for the Swing. Myron Noodleman will be on hand. Fans will also receive $2 off of admission of they bring an article of clothing to the ballpark and donate it to the Goodwill clothing drive....
