West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps announced today that lefthanded pitcher Paul Hammond has been added to the roster. The team also announced that pitcher Orlando Perdomo has been placed on the disabled list and first baseman Ryan Roberson has been activated from the disabled list and assigned to the Lakeland Tigers.

Hammond joins the Whitecaps from the Lakeland Tigers after receiving approval from Minor League Baseball for the downward assignment. Hammond pitched in just four games for Lakeland and spent the majority of his first professional season with the Gulf Coast League Tigers. The Mason, Ohio native compiled a 3-0 record with four saves and a 0.44 ERA for the GCL Tigers. He was 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA in his four appearances for Lakeland. Hammond was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 35th round of the June 2006 draft out of the University of Michigan. As a fifth-year senior in 2006, Hammond was the co-captain of the Wolverines baseball team and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team as a starting pitcher. He was also the Geoff Zahn Award winner as Michigan's Most Valuable Pitcher for 2006 as voted by his teammates.

Perdomo served as the Whitecaps closer for most of the season, but left the game with an injury on August 18 after allowing two runs on two hits and not recording an out. Perdomo continues to lead the Midwest League in saves with 28 on the season. He has an 0-2 record with a 4.15 ERA.

Roberson has not played for the Whitecaps since May 18 after an injury to his wrist sidelined him. He played in 34 games, primarily at first base, and hit .233 with five doubles, one triple and 13 RBIs.
