
Whitecaps Overpower Lugnuts

LANSING, MI- Ten runs through the first three innings gave the West Michigan Whitecaps more than enough offense for a 10-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts at Oldsmobile Park on Wednesday night. The 'Caps pounded out 17 hits. Anthony Shawler tossed six innings for the win, and Ronnie Bourquin collected three hits and four RBI.
Game one of the series went in favor of the Whitecaps early. West Michigan sent 10 men to the plate in the second scoring 5 times. Jordan Lennerton lifted a two-run home run to left for the first two runs. Gustavo Nunez came through with a two-out, RBI double. Then Ronnie Bourquin delivered a two-out, two-run single for a 5-0 'Caps lead.
The third inning looked much like the second. The Whitecaps put 4 runs on the board with 9 men going to the plate. RBI hits from Angel Flores and Gustavo Nunez plus a two-run single from Bourquin helped the 'Caps build a 9-0 advantage.
Ben Guez led off the fourth for the 'Caps with a triple. Jordan Lennerton's sacrifice fly brought home Guez, and the Whitecaps were in front, 10-0.
Lansing got a run on the board in the fourth on Balbino Fuenmayor's RBI single.
The Lugnuts' second run came on Yoherman Chavez's sacrifice fly that scored Kenny Wilson.
Anthony Shawler grabbed his seventh win of the year. He allowed 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Lansing's Joel Carreno takes the loss. He's now 2-3.
Nunez finished 2-5 with 3 RBI. Angel Flores and Jordan Lennerton had 3 hits, and Ben Guez and Brandon Douglas each had 2 hits.
West Michigan and Lansing meet in game two of the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. ET at Oldsmobile Park.
