Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. - Great Lakes RHP Daigoro Rondon balked home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 7th inning as the Fort Wayne TinCaps edged the Loons, 5-4, Wednesday at Parkview Field. Allan Dykstra continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. The Loons dashed out to an early lead; in the top of the 2nd , Jerry Sands lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Nick Buss, who led off the inning with a double. Anthony Hatch blasted a two-out solo home run in the 3rd to make it a 2-0 game.
Dykstra quickly erased the deficit in the 3rd inning. After Cole Figueroa was hit by an Aaron Miller pitch, Dykstra ripped a two-out, two-run homer to tie the game.
Fort Wayne took the lead in the bottom of the 5th as Figueroa reached on a two-base error and scored on Dykstra's RBI single to right, making it 3-2.
In the 6th , Kevin Hansen and Jaff Decker drew back-to-back walks. Justin Baum followed with a single up the middle to push the lead to 4-2.
The Loons came back in the top of the 7th . Dee Gordon and Jaime Pedroza both advanced to scoring position thanks to a double-steal and Kyle Russell flared a two-out, two-run double down the left-field line to knot the game at 4-4.
Fort Wayne came right back and took the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th . Yefri Carvajal stroked his third hit of the night, a leadoff single to right. Then, after failing to execute a bunt, Adam Zornes hit a broken-bat double over the third-base bag to put runners at second and third. After a pair of non-productive outs, Jaff Decker stepped into the batter's box. The Loons tried to signal for an intentional walk, but Rondon had already started into his pitching motion. He stopped his motion and was called for a balk, allowing Carvajal to score the go-ahead run.
LHP Rob Musgrave (2-4) grabbed the win despite allowing a pair of runs in two innings. RHP Alexis Lara collected his second save of the year. Great Lakes LHP Jon Dutton took the loss to fall to 0-2.
The TinCaps improved to 90-45 for the season, 45-20 in the second half. The 45 wins are tied for the most wins in a half in franchise history. Great Lakes fell to 78-57 overall, 38-27 for the half.
Fort Wayne and the Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) continue the series Wednesday at Parkview Field. TinCaps LHP Mike Watt (7-3) gets the nod against Loons RHP JonMichael Redding (15-3) in a 7:05pm start.
