Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Jordan Lennerton went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead a 17-hit barrage as the West Michigan Whitecaps (37-28; 80-55) romped past Lansing Lugnuts (26-39; 52-82), 10-2, on Wednesday night at Oldsmobile Park.
With the loss, Lansing's elimination number was reduced to one.
Aided by Lennerton's bat and a pair of two-run Ronnie Bourquin singles, West Michigan scored five runs in the second inning, four in the third, and one in the fourth to put the Lugnuts away early.
Lugnuts right-hander Joel Carreno (2-3) served up Lennerton's 12th home run of the year with one out in the second inning, breaking a scoreless tie. Two batters later, Avisail Garcia sent a liner off of Carreno's right shoulder, knocking the starter from the game and opening the floodgates.
West Michigan starting pitcher Anthony Shawler (7-4) earned the victory, limiting the Lugnuts to one run on six hits over six innings while striking out six.
In defeat, designated hitter Balbino Fuenmayor went 2-for-4 for the second straight game, the only Lugnuts batter with a multi-hit effort.
The two teams play the second game of the three-game series on a special 1990s-themed edition of the popular Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park. Right-hander Chris Holguin (1-4, 6.15) will start for Lansing against Whitecaps left-hander Adam Wilk (2-1, 1.36).
