West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
LANSING, MI - Andrew Kown allowed several bloop hits as Lansing rolled up four runs in the second inning and held on for a 5-1 win over the Whitecaps. The loss gives the South Bend the Eastern Division second half title. It also prevents the Whitecaps from securing the top playoff seed for the East in the half. Southwest Michigan defeated Quad Cities, 9-1 to stay alive in the race for the top seed. West Michigan had hits in each of the first seven innings, but only scored in the third when Jeff Frazier reached on a dropped ball by the first baseman David Hicks on a throw from third base. Chris Robinson scored on the play and the bases remained loaded with one out. Robinson went 3-for-4 with a double, but his streak of six consecutive hits came to an end in the ninth inning when he grounded out. He is 7-for-9 in the first two games of the series with three doubles, which makes up nearly half of his two month total since joining the Whitecaps. Juan Perez pitched five innings as the starter to pick up the win and Ben Harrison threw the final four innings for Lansing to earn the save in his Midwest League debut. A two-run single by Christian Snavely was the big blow by Lansing in the second. Ryan Klosterman hit his 13th home run of the year with two out in the seventh to provide the final margin of victory.
The final two games of the regular season for the Whitecaps are also in Lansing. Below are the expected pitching match ups: (West Michigan vs.
