"We are very pleased to extend Javain's contract and at the same time reward him for a successful first year in MLS," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. "He is a great example and reference of encouragement for our 2022 SuperDraft selections. Throughout last season, Javain worked hard, stayed humble, and improved along the way. We look forward to helping him continue his growth as a member of our club."
Brown, 22, led the team in tackles won with 40 and finished second on the team in interceptions with 45 during the MLS regular season. The native of Kingston, Jamaica added five assists in 19 starts and 26 appearances in MLS, including playoffs, and made one start in the Canadian Championship.

Capable of being deployed as a fullback or a wingback on either side of the pitch, Brown was selected 23rd overall by Whitecaps FC in the first round of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft on January 21 and was signed to an MLS contract on February 17.
The Jamaican international earned four caps last year in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying, making his return to the side since appearing in three international friendlies in 2018 and one in 2017. Brown is currently at camp with Jamaica as they get set to play an international friendly in Peru next Thursday.
Previously in his career, Brown was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team in 2019 at the University of South Florida. He also made 31 starts and 32 appearances with Harbour View FC in the Jamaican Premier League.
